Bears Ears falls on Deaf Ears

According to the North American Bear Center, a bear’s “hearing is over twice the sensitivity of human hearing and exceeds human frequency ranges.”  A bear’s ears are their first line of defense.  If you have ever hiked in bear country you know that noise if your best protection you can carry with you.  Talking with a hiking partner or whistling let the bear know that you are there, and thus to stay away. Because if you surprise a bear he will chose to defend herself and that means trouble for humans. So, I find it quite ironic that Obama’s recent

Supporting Convention of States but not Term Limits

My son asked me the other day why I was supporting the Convention of States, when I was against Term Limits.  And his question is very valid, especially since according to a Convention of States poll, the most popular reason for people to support the Convention of States is because they want Term Limits.  The truth of the matter is I also don’t support the 2nd most popular reason people are supporting a Convention of States.  I am opposed to a Balanced Budget Amendment. There may even be a third of the 9 proposed amendments that I am opposed to,

Faltering Faith: Sacrifice

One of my favorite Hymns from a young age and even until today has always been “Because I have been Given Much.”  It is based on the peom of Grace Noll Crowell. Let’s read some of it: Because I have been given much I too must give Because of thy great bounty Lord Each day I live I shall divide (my) gifts from thee With every brother that see Who has the need of help from me … Because I have been blessed by thy great love dear Lord I’ll share thy love again According to thy word I shall

Missing the Mark with Millennials

So, I had the privilege last week to attend a Church training meetings for leaders in our local area.  And while there was a lot discussed in this meeting, there was one things that spoke to me as both a faithful member of the Church and as a politically minded person.  The training was related to how do we as church goers reach Millennials? As part of this training they shared this interesting video that was put together by David Kinnaman.  Please take 3 minute to watch this.  Please use both your political eyes and your church eyes. So, how

The Veterans in My Life – Thank You

Somethings are harder for me to say than others. I think that perhaps typing them will make it easier, but it doesn’t.  I feel trite even bringing this up on Veteran’s day.  Because while I might not express it, I am grateful every day to the men and women who have fought to protect this country and thus protect my family and me. There have been a lot of memes being posted today.  I respect those who have done so.  I am tempted to share one, but again I can’t seem to find one that captures what I am really

The Electoral College, the President, and the States

When I started back up blogging 2 and a half months ago, one of the reasons I wanted to blog is because so often Internet memes get it wrong.  I often agree with the intent of some of the memes, but often there is some misleading information in the meme.  Here is just one example of such a misleading meme. Okay.  This map does accurately represent roughly half of the population.  And yes, each county is fairly accurately represented.  However, we don’t know that this map actually indicated how people voted.  Looking at the Guardians Presidential Map (by county), we
