I don’t think I have ever seen this before. With Donald Trump being almost double digits behind Clinton in the race, it seems that everyone had given up. Republicans are making plans for a post-election Clinton presidency. They are looking to regroup and prepare for 2020.
Okay, I confess, I follow a lot of conservative social media outlets. And as such my info may be biased. But when there is one of the top conservative commentators already planning an exit from the Republican Party before the election is even over. It’s has to be a little dire.
I will admit, if Trump wins this thing, then I am very likely to withdraw my membership from the Republican Party. That is not going to be an easy decisions. I have dedicated a lot of years of service in local as well as county level leadership, and it has become a part of who I am. But if it is becoming something that I am not (as I suspect a Trump presidency would lead it to), then I don’t want to be a part of it. However, I am getting off topic again.
Not only is the Party giving up, Trump appears to be giving up, too. The election isn’t over and he is pursuing a Trump TV deal. I get that you need to stay ahead of the curve, but this is just throwing in the towel and calling it quits.
Don’t get me wrong, I am 100 percent confident that one of the main reasons Trump started this campaign was to increase his brand recognition. I also believe that when NBC pulled it’s “the Celebrity Apprentice” deal off the table, Trump decided that he had no choice but to follow through with it. Because after all Trump is a winner.
It should be obvious to most of us, that the Trump brand is tarnished beyond repair. So, it is very likely that Trump TV will follow the leads of past Trump ventures. Just think of Trump Steaks, Trump Water, and Trump University, Trump TV will be a failure. And I am sure he will turn it into an special station that only airs in his Hotel chain, because it was such a big success on the cable networks.
Where is the fight? Not just from the Party, but from Trump. Okay, I have seen a few swells of fight. Mostly in the attempts at ineffective attacks against Clinton, but they amount to the equivalent of using a feather as a fly swatter. Sure you are making some of the correct motions, but you are not going to get the fly.
I gave up on Trump over a year ago, not that I was really ever for Trump. So, I have no problem with the rest of the world turning there backs on him. But shouldn’t there be at least some fight by the Republicans for the presidency? Shouldn’t there be some semblance of wanting to win. After all we picked a winner.
