Faltering Faith: Sacrifice

One of my favorite Hymns from a young age and even until today has always been “Because I have been Given Much.”  It is based on the peom of Grace Noll Crowell. Let’s read some of it: Because I have been given much I too must give Because of thy great bounty Lord Each day I live I shall divide (my) gifts from thee With every brother that see Who has the need of help from me … Because I have been blessed by thy great love dear Lord I’ll share thy love again According to thy word I shall

The Veterans in My Life – Thank You

Somethings are harder for me to say than others. I think that perhaps typing them will make it easier, but it doesn’t.  I feel trite even bringing this up on Veteran’s day.  Because while I might not express it, I am grateful every day to the men and women who have fought to protect this country and thus protect my family and me. There have been a lot of memes being posted today.  I respect those who have done so.  I am tempted to share one, but again I can’t seem to find one that captures what I am really

Faltering Faith

I have been wanting to post this for a while but I feel inadequate.  I just don’t feel like I am qualified to judge the faith of another. While I am a man of faith, I also believe that unrighteous judgement is wrong. Also my beliefs are considered non-traditional by even the most radical of Christian religions. Further I feel that this will come across poorly.  Either I will be seen as being holier than thou or I will be accused of bashing another’s faith.  Rest assured that my intent is not to question another’s faith, nor is it to

She’s Off to Serve the Lord

A little over 25 years ago, I left my home and family to serve a mission for my Savior and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a very exciting time for me.  I was probably nervous, but I can now only remember the excitement. It was something I dreamed of from the day I first learned that serving a mission was something I could do. I am excited again today for a similar but different reason. Last night, my daughter was set apart as a missionary for the Church to serve the Lord and her fellowmen.

Let Correct Principles, not Emotion, Govern Your Actions

Sometimes in life you meet people who change your life. Sometimes it is because of the actions of that person, sometimes it is because of something they teach you, and at other times it is because of the example they set.  It is rare in my opinion that you meet someone who influences you for the positive in all three. I know such a man.  He is the man who is serving as Stake President in our area (for the few readers who don’t know what a Stake Presiedent is; He is the religious leader of roughly 8-9 separate congregations

Establish a House

A talk I gave in our Sacrament Meeting on March 18, 2012. In His infinite wisdom, our Father in Heaven sent each of us here to earth to live in families. The idea of a family was no mistake. It wasn’t just some random set of coincidences that led man into families. Since the beginning of man, Adam and Eve lived in a family. Their children were married and had families of their own. The House of Israel is a family. Lehi left Jerusalem and sailed to the Promised Land with his family. Even Jesus Christ was born into a
